About Sunrise Mastiffs

Hello there and welcome to our kennel! My name is Katie Black, and my family and I live in the Upstate of South Carolina. We have had the honor of moving back to the property I was born and raised on and get to be the 4th generation in my family to call it home.

I have had the dream of raising my own English Mastiffs since I was in high school. I was 17 years old when I purchased my very first English Mastiff from a family in Spartanburg, SC. I can now say I am hooked, and this will forever be my breed.

Here at Sunrise Mastiffs our goal is to provide families with the healthiest, happiest, most beautiful English Mastiff puppies. Our puppies are part of our family and raised with a hands on approach until they become part of yours.

The History

Mastiffs, gentle giants with ancient roots, come in various breeds. Loyal guardians with calm temperaments, they require ample space, training, and experienced owners due to their size and strength. Though some breeds have wrinkles, all mastiffs offer a lifetime of devotion.

Living With Said Giant

Owning an English Mastiff is like having your own personal teddy bear. (but way less likely to eat the furniture). These giants need ample space to roam and stretch those long legs. Forget tiny apartments – a fenced-in yard with secure boundaries is a must-have. Grooming is a breeze (think one or two good brushings a week), but bath time might require a team effort (or a professional groomer).

Keeping the Giant Healthy

English Mastiffs have a lifespan of 6-12 years and can weigh between 160-230 lbs, but their size can make them prone to certain health issues like hip dysplasia and bloat. Regular vet visits, a healthy diet, and keeping them at a good weight are key to a long and happy life for your furry giant.

Training

English Mastiffs are smart, but their independent streak can make traditional training methods a challenge. Positive reinforcement with treats and praise is your best bet. They're eager to please their humans, so positive vibes go a long way. Early socialization is crucial to prevent fearfulness or aggression later in life. Think of it as teaching them proper doggy etiquette – gotta know how to interact with other creatures (especially the smaller ones).

Prospective Owners

These aren't your average lapdogs. Experience with large breeds is a plus, as their size and strength require a confident and capable handler. Families with older children who understand canine behavior can find a loyal companion in owning a Mastiff. But first-time dog owners and those living in cramped spaces might want to consider a smaller guardian.

The Dames

Daisy

Gracie

Minnie

The Sire

Mr. Thore

Meet Daisy

Daisy is our Dark Brindle Female who is absolutely bursting with personality. She is a true english mastiff, wanting to be touching you at all times. Her favorite thing to do is flip over and get into prime belly rub position.

Meet Thore

Thore Is our brindle male, and is just as outgoing as Daisy. He wants to be touched if you’re around and belly rubs are high up on his priority list. He enjoys going for car rides and is happy to meet new people. Chickens, on the other hand are another story, but who doesn’t love chicken? He protects us everyday from the squirrels and takes his job very seriously.

Meet Minnie

Minnie has a protective personality that is unwavering and loyal to her family. She is an old soul that enjoys lounging in the yard and pleasing her people. Her favorite food is warm rice and carrots drizzled over her dog food. She is always ready to ride in the car and just wants to be in your lap.

Meet Gracie

Gracie is a puppy from Minnie’s litter in 2021. The closer it was to time to find each puppy a home, we knew we couldn’t part with her. She has a charismatic personality and is one of the most beautiful mastiffs I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She definitely thinks she is a human, and expects

to be treated as such.

Fawn Male

This big hunk has a “take it slow’ personality. He is the first to the food bowl at feeding time, and more often that not, the last to leave.

Dark Brindle Female

This little beauty is what I searched for in looking for her mom, Daisy. She is almost solid black right now, but will have a little brindle sprinkled through when she gets full grown. She is so sweet, and has a personality much like her mom.

Brindle Female

This little lady is a spitting image of her Dad. And if you’re looking for trouble, look no further. She is bursting with personality, and I’m pretty sure she has claimed the chew toys as hers. She will be brindle with about 50/50 light and dark once she gets full grown.

Puppies Are Here! : Gracie x Murphy

Currently taking deposits for puppies. We have 12 beautiful, healthy babies!

Not many studs out there are like Murphy. 240 lbs (and still growing) with OFA excellent hips (which is very rare for a Mastiff his size), clear/normal (a) for all genetic markers and a very nice championed pedigree. Find more details out about Murphy and the kennel he comes from at:

English Mastiff Stud Services.

And I might be biased, but not many girls are like my Gracie. She is a healthy 170, OFA good hips, genetically tested for PRA-D, DM, CMR1, and HU, but her by-far most desirable trait is her patient, loving, bomb-proof personality. She is the BEST and the only way to appreciate her is to come meet her in person!

We got to experience the lake this past weekend. We hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!

Past Puppies

They are going to grow fast, need an adult size life jacket, and definitely not sit still for Christmas card pictures unless treats are used.
